Some of you may remember Kristie . . . last November I blogged the inspiration boards for her wedding. In a passing email, Kristie mentioned to me that she was considering having a "lemon themed" wedding reception and I jumped at the chance to throw together inspiration boards! It was such a different and clever idea. Kristie was a genius through her planning. She knew when to add her own personal touches and creativity and even more important, she knew when she had enough of these touches, creating a perfect balance of tradition and uniqueness for her wedding.

Last week I received an email from Kristie that WellWed Magazine (the Hamptons edition) was featuring her wedding. Bravo to the newlywed, who is now considering using her creative talent to help others plan and design their wedding decor from start to finish.

Amanda was a client of mine for about a year and a half and during that time, I got to know her and her wedding extremely well. She always kept in touch and kept me in the loop and she definitely wanted her wedding to have a wow factor to it. Well, she got what she wanted with a show-stopping dress, huge, gorgeous centerpieces and no detail left unturned.

Lisa was a terrific bride to work with throughout her planning process! Last July, Lisa, her sister and niece, were in the bridal party of one of our weddings. That same weekend, Michael popped the question and the planning process began! It was great to work with some of the same warm families and friends that I met the first time around.

Lisa wanted to achieve a cozy, warm winter feeling for her wedding. Her color palette included shades of blue, purple, pink and yellow. The favors were homemade hot chocolate and marshmellow vials.

D-I-Y Project: Rehearsal Practice Bouquets!

I was thumbing through this month's issue of Martha Stewart Living, an easy D-I-Y (Do-it-yourself) project caught my eye! Although this DIY was intended to be a cute way to give mini-bouquets to your friends for Valentine's Day, when I saw it, I thought it these bouquets would be perfect to make practice bouquets for your bridesmaids to use during the rehearsal!

Easy as 1-2-3 Instructions:

1) Visit carnation cones and print the first template onto heavyweight paper.

2) Cut out the cone and fasten at tabs using double-sided tape.

3)Bind carnation stems using floral tape for best results. Masking tape will also secure stems adequately.

I'm sure some of you remember the contest we held last month. We asked couples to send in a photo that showcased their spontaneity along with a random fact about themselves as a couple and these couples asked their friends and family to vote for them to win. The response was overwhelming and in the end, Vanessa and Arthur won a day-of-coordination package on their wedding day, while Andrea and Jason won an engagement shoot with Pennace Photography. Laura recently blogged some teaser photos from their photo shoot in Manhattan and we wanted to share!

Peacock themed weddings are heavily trending for 2011 weddings and I, personally, love this trend! While I've seen various color palates to support this theme, most incorporate purple, turquoise, and blue. If you're considering a peacock theme for your upcoming wedding, be sure to go easy on the peacock feathers because less is more!

Juliet and Derek were a wonderful couple! They were very sweet and absolutely hilarious but one of the things I remember most were how brilliant they were! I wish I had better photos from this wedding but unfortunately, I could not get professional pictures from this wedding and I only had my cell phone's camera. Still, it gives our Fox Hollow brides something to see!

I did myself a disservice by not re-charging my camera's battery prior to this wedding. In short, all aspects of the wedding were beautiful and I was stuck with the camera on my Blackberry. Luckily, Glenmar was the photographer and John and I are Facebook friends, allowing me to steal a few teasers to supplement the photos taken from my phone.

Facebook Contest Results

Recently, we ran our first real contest on our Facebook Fan Page. Sure, we're known to give away free stuff at bridal shows and showers but this was our first real contest, with both a partial day coordination package and an engagement photo shoot up for grabs. Couples were asked to submit a photo of themselves and a random fact and then ask their friends to vote for them. The response was greater than we had expected and we think all those who were involved should thank their friends who returned to our page day after day to vote for them!

Vanessa and Arthur were our winners, boasting double the votes of any other contestant. Since the couple have already taken engagement pictures, they chose to accept the coordination package and we are thrilled to work their 4/30/11 event at Westbury Manor!

We now have an engagement session up for grabs with the amazing Laura, owner of Pennace Photography. Here in the office, we bounced several ideas off of each other because with so many great couples, how could we choose just one? We considered awarding it to the first couple to enter the contest (Agnes & Shawn), the couple with the least amount of votes (Marisa & Michael), the couple with our favorite photo (Lisa & Jason), the couple who tried the hardest to win the contest (Sarena & Mike), a couple with a great story (Andrea & Jason), or the couple who Laura may have the most fun with at the photo shoot because of their spontaneous nature (Meredith & Matt). After much discussion, we have decided that the only fair way to give away the other prize is to award it to the runners up, Andrea and Jason! Congrats to you both!

But wait, in true Fairy Tale Events fashion, because we LOVE making people happy (just ask our clients), we have decided to keep going. Although we'd love to give everyone free photo shoots and DOC Packages, we just can't. But since you wrote us, sent us a photo and then asked your friends and family to vote, we'd like for you to feel like at least it wasn't all for nothing . All of our runners up are entitled to one of the following:

For anyone who doesn't already know, I am a huge fan of Laura's work! She's an incredibly talented photographer who has branched into the world of wedding photography in the past few years. Believe it or not, this decision has been a very long time in the making since I only get to trash it once.

When looking back reflecting on Laura and Brian's wedding last August, two things immediately jump to mind. (1) Their color scheme, as I had never seen bright pink and purple as a color scheme and I loved it, especially with the bright green contrast on the bouquets! (2) The most fun and exciting bridal party ever! I can only imagine how excited these girls will be on their own wedding day! Some of the girls were even brave enough to pose with the aggressive peacock at Westbury Manor. I was more concerned keeping it away from the bride when she was posing!

September Update

Hi All!

I’ll begin with my standard apology for not regularlyupdating this blog. I’ve toyed with the idea of hiring someone to do so on mybehalf, but that just doesn’t feel right.

I haven’t blogged any photos from the past 25 or so weddingsso I’m thinking of just blogging a “Best of Summer Weddings” post, featuringsome of our favorite clients.

In the meantime, we have some very excited announcements tomake. For starters, we are now effectively servicing most of upstate, New Yorkas well as parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Additionally, we havepurchased a photo booth to rent to our clients as an affordable photo boothsolution. Our photo booths do not compromise quality and packages are bothaffordable and fully customizable. We have also recently made investments inseveral items available for rent including birdcages, card boxes, and bubblemachines, which make for better photos outside of a ceremony when guests areblowing bubbles. Other rentals such as cotton candy, sno cone and popcorn machinesare also available for various events.

FEATURED WEDDING: Sarah & Josh's Brooklyn Bridge Wedding

When I sit down for a consultation, I often hear "I don't want a traditional wedding." While this was the case with Josh and Sarah, what I loved about them was that they both had such a clear vision of exactly what they wanted to achieve! It wasn't about being different for the sake of being different, it was about incorporating things that they loved into the weddings! Sarah loves sunflowers and chose red sunflowers for boutonnières and red and yellow sunflowers for the bouquets! She even specified the type of sunflowers that she preferred (no dark centers!) In lieu of a flower girl and ring bearer, they had pinwheel bearers. The couple wanted a hip, laid back feel and found vintage mason jars for their centerpieces. Their venue opened a side lounge, which we decorated with dozens of candles, paper lanterns, retro couches and a vintage photo booth. Because the reception was held in a trendy Brooklyn restaurant, we had a quick flip after dinner in order to turn the main dining area into a dance floor!

When I first met with Siobha'n and John, they expressed their desire for an Irish influence on their wedding day. Their vision was achieved with a green color scheme, bagpipers, Irish step dancers, a Claddagh ice sculpture, a shamrock carved into a fruit display, an Irish trinity knot cake topper, and Irish flags creating the arch for their grand entrance.

When the invitations for Siobhan's bridal shower went out, there was a request for her shower guests' to design a sock. The idea was that Siobha'n would pick her favorite sock and wear it on the day of the wedding. All of her guests put so much effort into decorating these socks, that we attached them all and when John went in to remove the garter, he just kept pulling socks out before displaying the winning sock. The photo below shows the winning sock and some of the socks he pulled out.

John is an avid Harry Potter fan! In fact, when he proposed to Siobha'n, he quoted one of the stories, promising her love. Siobha'n surprised him with an amazing Harry Potter inspired groom's cake.

Rachel and Adam's wedding was both picture perfect and very exciting for me to coordinate. I got to go to new places- Ace Hotel to get ready in the morning, Water's Edge for the wedding, and then I met some of my now favorite vendors! First, I met Stephen Andrews, a photographer who I had not worked with previously. I didn't know that day that I would fall in love with his contemporary style upon seeing his blog. Not only was Stephen a pleasure to work with, but I became a huge fan of his work. Next, I met Andrew Pascoe, a florist from Oyster Bay. While I had spoken to Andrew over the phone during confirmations, it was refreshing to see that he was on site the day of the wedding, placing even the smallest detail by hand. I was blown away by his floral design and have since worked with him on several occasions and I always get excited to see what he comes up with!

Below is probably my favorite candid wedding shots! The glass seemed to be resistant to breaking!

Immediately after becoming engaged, Matthew and Rachel decided to incorporate their favorite pastime into their wedding day. Matthew and Rachel, along with their families, are avid soccer players. Not only were the couple married during the world cup games, but they took a side trip to a local turf before their reception. With no detail left untouched, Rachel sported white and pink cleats for the "game" and both families, along with the bridal party, all sported custom made soccer jerseys at their morning after brunch, with a custom made crest on the front of the jersey and their role in the wedding on the sleeve.

For over a year now, I've been running into the folks at Afresh Approach at various bridal events. Each time they hand me a different chocolate, I swear it's the best truffle I've ever had in my life. Taste one truffle and become a lifelong patron at their Babylon shop. Let me clarify, she uses no artificial coloring, no artificial flavoring, with everything made fresh to order for each event. One bite of a Marneycake will make you a believer! Before you write her cakes off as being dull without food coloring, take a look at the vibrant colors made possible by the use of gum paste. Buttercream has never tasted so good, because Marneycakes uses actual buttercream, as opposed to the white Crisco cream that most cake shops call "buttercream". As an added bonus, Marneycakes is able to accommodate dietary restrictions, food allergies, and other health concerns when creating these fabulous cakes.

An Upcoming Fairy Tale Event

Written on a more somber event than usual, Fairy Tale Events will be coordinating the Cure SMA New York Gala, hosted by Kiley and Dylan's Sweet Dreams Foundation, and Sophia's Cure Foundation. The event will be at Bridgewaters at The South Street Seaport on Thursday, November 12, 2009, beginning at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $150 and benefit this wonderful cause.
