Over the years, I've had the opportunity to indulge in numerous cakes, pastries, chocolates and pretty much any sweet treat ever served at a special occasion. Some of the best sweets that I've ever sampled have come from several extremely talented pastry chefs, cake designers, and chocolatiers right here in Long Island neighborhoods. As I wedding planner, I am often asked for my picks for edible favors and unforgettable wedding cakes. Here they are!


Best Chocolates: Afresh Approach, Babylon, NY
For over a year now, I've been running into the folks at Afresh Approach at various bridal events. Each time they hand me a different chocolate, I swear it's the best truffle I've ever had in my life. Taste one truffle and become a lifelong patron at their Babylon shop. Afresh Approach is my pick for edible chocolate favors.

Best Tasting Cakes: Marneycakes, Oceanside, NY

Let me clarify, she uses no artificial coloring, no artificial flavoring, with everything made fresh to order for each event. One bite of a Marneycake will make you a believer! Before you write her cakes off as being dull without food coloring, take a look at the vibrant colors made possible by the use of gum paste. Buttercream has never tasted so good, because Marneycakes uses actual buttercream, as opposed to the white Crisco cream that most cake shops call "buttercream". As an added bonus, Marneycakes is able to accommodate dietary restrictions, food allergies, and other health concerns when creating these fabulous cakes.

Best Looking Cakes: Cheeky Cakery, NY
"I'm Mandy. And I’m all about cake. I love cake! I’m so passionate about it- It’s my favorite thing!," explains Mandy, the artist behind the creative designs of Cheeky Cakery. Mandy further explains the promise behind Cheeky Cakery's products, "Call me if you want to love your cake. Call me if you want to eat home-made, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Call me if you want 'Beautiful.' 'Yummy.' 'Amazing.' It’s really that simple." I have to admit I had a difficult time narrowing down Mandy's adorable cakes in order to feature just four, but here are some of my favorite Cheeky Cakery cakes.
